Stephanie Hargens is the SUPERINTENDENT at Michigan Online School. She is an education veteran with 27 years of experience in teaching and administration in multiple settings: traditional public, online, private, and charter. Stephanie has worked in schools in California, Indiana, Michigan, and Great Britain, including sitting on the Board of Governors of a British primary school while living in England. She is a staunch advocate for choice in education and is passionate about transforming education for kids and families. Stephanie graduated from Indiana University with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. She earned her master’s degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from California State University. In her spare time, Stephanie loves to spend time with her husband and three daughters, cook, travel, and volunteer at her children’s school.

Amy Stirling
Amy Stirling is the PRINCIPAL of Michigan Online School. She is in her third year at MOS and her 14th year in education. She received her undergraduate degree in Marketing Management from Hillsdale College with a minor in Biology (where she also played college volleyball) and her secondary teaching credential in biology. Amy integrated science from California State University, Northridge. She earned her Master’s in educational leadership from Grand Valley State University in 2018. Amy enjoys spending time with her husband and 2 children in her spare time, reading, crafting, cooking, and playing volleyball.

Terasa Burt
Terasa Burt is the ELEMENTARY PRINCIPAL for Michigan Online School. She joined the team in 2020 as a science teacher and also served as Operations Manager. Terasa started her career in education as an elementary teacher in 2006. She transitioned to online education in 2013, where she found a true passion for educating students virtually. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Central Michigan University with a major in General Science and a minor in History. She earned her Master’s in Educational Leadership from Grand Valley State University. Terasa enjoys reading, baking, gardening, and adventuring with her husband and 2 sons.

Ranjani Iyer
Ranjani Iyer is the ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL (6-12) at Michigan Online School. She became a part of the MOS team in 2020 as a math teacher and comes with a wealth of experience in education across various regions, including India, Texas, and Michigan; she brings a global perspective to her role. Ranjani holds a Doctoral degree in Education with a specialization in Curriculum and Instruction and a Master’s in Mathematics. Additionally, Ranjani is actively utilizing Heartfulness tools and programs to foster the well-rounded growth of the next generation. She is also a dedicated mother to three teenagers. Ranjani spends quality time with them in collaborative efforts on research and initiatives related to mental wellness. Her contributions extend to the academic realm, where she has authored numerous articles in international education journals.

James Van Nada
Jim Van Nada is the Student Services Coordinator at Michigan Online School. He started his career in education, working for Grand Valley State University, where he managed student housing. Jim held several higher education and vocational training roles before joining the MOS team as a Success Coach in 2020. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology and French Language & Literature from Oakland University. He earned his Master’s in Higher Education and Student Affairs from Bowling Green State University. Jim spends his spare time planning outdoor adventures with his spouse, attempting to keep up with his dog, and learning new recipes!

Kim Bush
Kim Bush is the Operations Manager at Michigan Online School. She joined the MOS team at the start of the 2022-23 school year. Kim has managed the operations of virtual schools for the past seven years. Before that, she worked in administration at a small cinema arts college and owned and operated a small business. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Davenport University. Kim enjoys spending time with her large family, hiking, kayaking, cooking, and visiting quaint small towns.

Kathleen Shirk
Katie Shirk is the Manager of Students with Disabilities at Michigan Online School. She is a native Michigander. Katie has been working in the field of education for 27 years. Katie has consulted throughout the state while working within the public school system. She has held positions as a resource teacher, teacher consultant, assistant principal, special education supervisor, and director. Katie holds an Educational Leadership-Special Education Administration degree from Grand Valley State University and a master’s in Special Education, endorsed in Specific Learning Disabilities from the University of Michigan. Her undergraduate degree is in general and special education with an endorsement in Emotional Impairments. Katie has a solid student-centered focus and truly believes all students can and want to learn. She loves spending time with her two children and her parents and being active outdoors!

Katherin Mohney
Katherin Mohney is the State and Federal Programs Manager at Michigan Online School. She has served students and families as an educator (teacher, instructional coach, principal) for over 22 years. Kathy strongly advocates for each student, understanding that a high-quality education is the foundation for having more opportunities beyond their K-12 education. Kathy earned her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Western Michigan University and her Master’s in Educational Leadership from Michigan State University. In her spare time, Kathy enjoys spending time with her husband, daughter, son-in-law, son, and her two fur babies.
Stacey Hull
Stacey Hull is the Counseling Coordinator at Michigan Online School. She began her career in education as a School Adjustment Counselor in Massachusetts Public Schools in 1996. After serving as a school counselor in Oregon, Maryland, and Indiana for many years, she transitioned to online education in 2018 and joined the MOS team in 2019. Stacey received her Bachelor’s degree in Spanish from Worcester University in Worcester, Massachusetts, and her Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Cambridge College. Stacey enjoys reading, shopping, exercising, and vacationing with her family in her spare time.
