WHAT GRADES ARE OFFERED BY THE SCHOOL?

Michigan Online School serves grades K-12.

WHAT SUBJECTS WILL MY CHILD TAKE?

Our elementary, middle, and high school students take very traditional courses with some great elective course options depending on the program!

WILL MY STUDENT HAVE A MICHIGAN STATE CERTIFIED TEACHER?

Yes, all our teachers hold current Michigan teaching credentials.

DOES THE SCHOOL SUPPLY COURSE MATERIALS?

The school offers the opportunity for each family to request a loaned computer at no expense. Elementary students receive a workbook. Our middle and high school students work primarily online, so no offline materials are required.

CAN YOU ACCOMMODATE ACCELERATED LEARNERS OR STUDENTS IDENTIFIED AS GIFTED?

The very nature of an online program can allow for acceleration. Our individualized approach allows teachers to assess students to find their challenge point in the elementary grades. Our students in middle and high school can take an accelerated approach with counselor permission. We also offer a great variety of electives, honors, and AP courses to challenge students and prepare them for higher education.

ARE YOU NCAA CERTIFIED?

Yes. Michigan Online School’s courses are NCAA approved. However, credit recovery courses are not. Please visit NCAA.org to search for our school to see NCAA approved courses.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER ENROLLMENT APPROVAL?

Upon enrollment approval, you are officially enrolled in our school as a full-time student and should not be enrolled in any other program. Within 48 hours, you will speak with an enrollment specialist. Your Enrollment Specialist will partner with you and your student to make sure that you feel completely prepared and confident to start this journey. You will also be assigned a teacher who will support your student’s academic and social success. Tips for Students Enrolling in Michigan Online School

Is Online Learning for You?

Online courses can provide opportunities for students to attend classes anytime from anywhere; however, studies show that students are often unprepared for the challenges inherent in this style of delivery. MOS is committed to helping students see the powerful connections encompassing reading, studying, and test-taking. Please carefully consider the questions below before requesting courses to help you know if you will be successful in learning in an online environment.

If you can answer “YES” to ALL of these statements/questions, online distance learning may be an attractive option for your educational needs. If you answer “NO” to two or more, you may want to resolve or improve in this area before enrolling in MOS online courses. More than three “NO” answers would indicate potential difficulties in successfully completing online coursework.

Technical Competencies and Access

  • Taking into consideration my personal, academic, work, and extracurricular activities (sports, clubs, etc.), will I be able to devote as much or more time to my online class as I do to my traditional studies?
  • Am I comfortable using the Internet as a means of communication and research?
  • Do I own or have access to a computer with Internet access and email?
  • I know or am willing to learn how to copy, cut, and paste text/files between programs.
  • I am able to learn and apply new software applications.

Learning Styles

  • I am able to prioritize tasks, organize assignments, and complete assigned work within a deadline.
  • I am gratified when I independently solve problems and take responsibility for what I learn.
  • Are my writing, reading, and communication abilities above average?
  • I prefer to work alone on assignments.
  • I learn best when I read the directions rather than when an instructor lectures and gives verbal explanations.
  • I consider face-to-face discussions with my classmates as optional or not important to me.
